Slab Project: Coffee Filter Bowl

For this piece I started by sketching it out and then making a paper model. I formed the piece in a bowl to hold the shape I wanted and used pencils to form and hold the curves. For glazing, I wanted to have fun with the color so I chose a kind of elementary approach with the colors and patterns.

Sculpture Project

The idea for the vase is that the flowers go from the top, through the center, and into the bottom with water. I started by creating two coils and the top and bottom pieces using a pinch pot approach. Then I hollowed out the coils and attached all the pieces. One of the last steps before bisque firing was cutting the hole at the top and bottom. To glaze, I dipped string in glaze and then wrapped the vase and pulled the string away until I was satisfied with the look. Then, I finished it with a glossy transparent glaze.

Pinch Pot Project

To build this project, I created three pinch pots and connected them to create the shape I wanted. Once formed, I added texture to the outside using a roller.

Coil Project

In this project, I built the structure with coils and the base with a slab. The idea for this was a fruit basket. For glazing, I plan for the vertical coils and base to be glossy white and the horizontal coils to be glossy blue.
